Communities

The Russophone Community of Oregon comes from various origins throughout the state’s history. Below are the four primary groups of which the community is comprised.

Orthodox Christians

Orthodox Christians were among first Russian Immigrants to the territories of the Northwest.

Jewish Immigrants

Jews from Russian-speaking lands arrived both during the late Imperial and Soviet periods.

Old Believers

Old Believers are a unique Russian spiritual group whose largest community in the U.S. lives in Oregon.

Evangelical Christians

Slavic Evangelical Christians from Ukraine and Russia are now the largest Russophone Immigrant group in Oregon.
